Stressed Out? Try These 3 Simple Strategies

Feeling anxious or unmotivated? These exercises will have stress running for the hills

We all know what it feels like to be stressed. But in today’s busy, time-strapped world, it’s easy to ignore the signs of stress — anxiety, impatience, insomnia, fear, lack of motivation, loneliness— or just consider them part of the daily grind. But they don’t have to be!  By taking these simple steps, you can de-stress and rekindle your zest for life.

Laugh

They often say “laughter is the best medicine,” and we couldn’t agree more. Laughter relieves physical tension and stress, triggers the release of endorphins, boosts the immune system, and improves blood flow. When you are feeling a symptom of stress, find a reason to laugh. Watch a funny YouTube video, look up a joke, ask a friend to share a funny story, or do something silly, like a forward roll or a headstand. Give yourself 5 to 10 minutes to find a reason to laugh and release your inhibitions.

Breathe

When you’re feeling stressed, sit down in a quiet space, whether it’s a room, your office, or your car. Close your left nostril with your finger and breathe in through the right nostril. Take slow, deep breaths for at least one minute. Because the right side of your body is attached to your de-stress regions, breathing through your right nostril helps relieve stress.

Find Inspiration in Others

Sometimes, we just need to hear a few words of encouragement from others. Think about the people who inspire you. It could be Gandhi, your favorite author, or your parents. Whoever it is, talk with or listen to them. The words and stories of others are helpful because they serve as a reminder that we have all faced tough challenges in life. However, we can overcome them and find happiness and balance!

Stress may be a powerful emotion, but happiness and peace are stronger. Enjoy life as Happy You by actively working to identify the source of your stress, and practicing these simple exercises to keep it at bay.
