Happiness seems like such a simple concept, doesn’t it? And although a recent study showed that 77% of people in the developed world are happy (83% in the U.S. and 75% in Germany), the majority of them also feel that life is overwhelming and complicated. At be&behappy, we’ve seen the power that five key areas have on our happiness: energy, youth, awareness, peace and love.

Like so many things in life, the sum is greater than the parts. Rather than view these as separate elements, think of them as building blocks. With these five pieces in place, working with each other in perfect balance, you’ll have the strong foundation you need to build a happier, more harmonious existence.

Key 1: Energy

Have you ever felt as though you have no drive, either in your personal or professional life? On the flip side, have you ever tried something new and felt yourself filled with energy, excitement and power? Energy impacts every part of us, and it can either drive us forward or hold us back. And while fitness is a key factor in your energy level, your mind and soul also need to be nourished to help you meet your full potential of power, strength and endurance.

Key 2: Youth

Have you ever wondered how some older people can seem younger than people half their age? There’s even a common term for it: “Young at heart.” Mental youth is much different than physical youth. Just like with energy, achieving youth mentally, physically and spiritually helps you feel happier. By focusing on your inner glow and flexibility, you can awaken your inner spirit and feel younger no matter how many candles were on your birthday cake this year!

Key 3: Awareness

Has your mind ever felt muddled or overloaded by a constant stream of information and stimuli? In the Age of Information, cultivating awareness is more important than ever. And as Marcus Aurelius said all those centuries ago, “Your life is what your thoughts make it.” Choose to make it positive, energetic, and youthful! By discovering clear focus and adjusting your perspective on life, you can fill your days with happiness.

Key 4: Peace

Just as when we lack awareness, we feel off-balance without peace, as our mind and spirit always crave calmness. Luckily, you have what you need to achieve peace, no matter what life throws your way. Start by working toward the joyful state of a calm heart, and an energetic mind and soul.

Key 5: Love

What is happiness without love? Love inspires energy, helps us find peace, rekindles our sense of youth, and can help us have a positive perspective on life. When we actively seek love, something amazing happens: we find an abundance of it. Choose to give and share love, and dive into an unlimited abundance of friendship, unity, trust, and faith.
